Large-capacity continuous-feed food-waste disposal with 1/2-horsepower motor.
1/2-Horsepower Continuous-Feed Food-Waste Disposal
Helps Take Care of the Dirty Work
Send food waste down the drain once and for all with this large-capacity GFC520V garbage disposal by GE. The disposal's powerful grinding action reduces food waste to small particles, making the unit safe for any properly sized septic system.
Even more, the food-waste disposal features an advanced insulation package that helps ensure super-quiet operation, making it possible to maintain the cheerful, festive mood of a successful dinner party even during cleanup. Hardworking, quiet, and easy to install–the GE disposal makes a useful addition to any busy kitchen.
Thoughtfully constructed, the food-waste disposal system also provides a two-level precutter, an on/off wall-switch with a sink stopper, a manual-reset overload protector, and a splashguard, as well as stainless-steel, jam-resistant, dual swivel impellers. Other highlights include cold-rolled carbon-steel armature shaft material, a stainless-steel sink flange, and a galvanized-steel turntable.
Easy-to-Use Continuous Feed
To operate, simply remove the sink stopper, turn on a medium flow of cold water, flip the switch to ON, and scrape in the food waste. The continuous-feed disposal takes care of the rest. Before turning the disposal off, let the water and the disposal run for about 25 seconds after the shredding and grinding stops to ensure all waste is thoroughly flushed through the trap and drain.
The disposal measures 5.19 inches deep by 5.5 inches wide by 12.69 inches high, and detailed installation instructions come included.

Best sink grinder for the non- professional kitchen of a couple or small family
This is an updated model of the GE sink-grinder that served me well for ten years but that I ruined by clogging it with tiny gravel from transplanting a plant in the sink — not a smart idea, I know (now). Anyway, what is best about this GE model (and its predecessor) is how small and compact it is in comparison to other maker’s 1/2 HP sink grinders. Those others were half-again to twice the size, as well as twice or much more in price. It installed very easily (by a plumber, not me) since I had had essentially the same model before and the attachment bracketing was the same. Although this updated model was described as having some significant sound baffling, a rarity at this low price, this new one sounds no quieter than the prior model. However, I don’t think it’s unreasonably loud at all, nor did I think the prior model was. In an exhaustive search at the Big Box stores and on line, I judged this to be the best because of its power, small size, relatively low price, and reliable maker. Oh, Amazon’s price was 30% less than elsewhere on line or in brick and mortar.
Complete GE garbage disposal * power cord not included*
So far so good. Got this GE 1/2 hp garbage disposal to replace another GE 1/3 hp that lasted just about 4 years. Installation went straight forward and took me about 1 hour to take off the old one and replace it. It comes with all the seals and gaskets needed for the installation.
It’s not super quiet but isn’t terribly loud either
Took us way too long to install and tested our abilities to contort ourselves under the sink, but we got it installed a couple of months ago, and it works very well so far. It’s not super quiet but isn’t terribly loud either, especially compared to the other one we had under there for so long. My toddler doesn’t run away screaming when we turn this one on (as opposed to the last one), so I think he approves, too!
Good Unit, Quirky Gasket Insert
We were pretty pleased with the purchase of this GE disposal. The unit installed fairly easily. It was a little noisier than we had anticipated and we weren’t happy with the insert that allows waste to pass into the disposal unit from the sink. Material either didn’t pass through readily (from gravity) or when the disposal was activated the ground materials had a tendency to come up through the disposal insert. In this case we almost wish we had the inserts that come with the Sink-E-rator units, which never seems to have this problem.
… this about a month ago and it was very easy to install and only took me about 20 minutes
I installed this about a month ago and it was very easy to install and only took me about 20 minutes. I have read some other reviews that this was difficult to install and people had issues with the ring that holds the disposal, but I did not have this issue, so it may have been redesigned. I was able to hold the disposal in place with one hand, line the ring up with the retainers and spin it on easily with the other. I did it a couple times to mark the new plumbing. The disposal is much quieter than my 20 year old Kenmore. Let’s hope it holds up as well.
Easy install, good price
I replaced a similar/discontinued GE model w/ this one. The other one (believe it was a GFC 525, 1/2 HP) lasted about 5 years (admittedly, I was pretty hard on the old one). All the connections and the locations/sizes were the same. Pretty easy to remove the old one and install the new, though I would suggest using a small bottle jack/car jack to hold up the new one while you’re connecting it.
But aside from that it was fairly easy and works well
Bought this as a replacement for our GE disposal because the connections were exactly the same. My Husband and I only occasionally do DIY projects so we needed 4 you tube videos to help us as we still had questions after reading the enclosed instructions (such as should we turn it clockwise or counter?) things that might be obvious to someone that does this sort of thing often. But aside from that it was fairly easy and works well. It was pleasant to note that it is much quieter than it’s CF002744101.
The reviews showed some problems people had. But I thought I’d try to be a plumber and install it myself. I put on my low rider jeans so I’d look like a true plumber and started. One person said they had trouble getting the old one out. Well, yeah, after 9 years. A hammer used on the mount ring solved that. Another said the plumber had to send for another to help position it. I’m 75 and no experience and managed it. Wonder how much that cost. The only problem I had was figuring out how to get it apart. Looked like a solid piece but finally figured out the “cushion mount” (see drawing) came apart from the top releasing it so I could put it together. Also, I paid 30 bucks less than I would have at our local big box hardware store and got the 1/2 HP vs the 1/3 HP.and it was delivered to my door. Works just fine — Larry
Easy to install
Easy to install. Works as advertised. Only drawback, is that this unit does not have the feature that allows you to use a hex key at the base to get it unstuck should something get hung in the blade and bind the unit. I almost removed it and bought a different unit for that very reason, but we’ll run with it for now and the next time I have to purchase one, I’ll be certain it has the hex key feature 🙂
