1/2-Horsepower Continuous-Feed Food-Waste Disposal

Helps Take Care of the Dirty Work

Send food waste down the drain once and for all with this large-capacity GFC520V garbage disposal by GE. The disposal's powerful grinding action reduces food waste to small particles, making the unit safe for any properly sized septic system.

Even more, the food-waste disposal features an advanced insulation package that helps ensure super-quiet operation, making it possible to maintain the cheerful, festive mood of a successful dinner party even during cleanup. Hardworking, quiet, and easy to install–the GE disposal makes a useful addition to any busy kitchen.

Convenient Design

Thoughtfully constructed, the food-waste disposal system also provides a two-level precutter, an on/off wall-switch with a sink stopper, a manual-reset overload protector, and a splashguard, as well as stainless-steel, jam-resistant, dual swivel impellers. Other highlights include cold-rolled carbon-steel armature shaft material, a stainless-steel sink flange, and a galvanized-steel turntable.

Easy-to-Use Continuous Feed

To operate, simply remove the sink stopper, turn on a medium flow of cold water, flip the switch to ON, and scrape in the food waste. The continuous-feed disposal takes care of the rest. Before turning the disposal off, let the water and the disposal run for about 25 seconds after the shredding and grinding stops to ensure all waste is thoroughly flushed through the trap and drain.

The disposal measures 5.19 inches deep by 5.5 inches wide by 12.69 inches high, and detailed installation instructions come included.

An Excellent Product…..Easy to Install…..Quiet and Efficient……

After having the typical leakage problems with a Badger sink disposer unit, and discovering that the only affordable replacement both Home Depot and Lowe’s offered was another $100 Badger unit (with no extended warranty available….which says a lot about their faith in Badger products), I turned to Amazon for a replacement. They offered the highly rated GE GFC520V Disposall at just over $60 (about half its normal retail price) with free shipping. The unit arrived in about 3 days, installed without a hitch, and runs very quietly and efficiently……far better than the Badger it replaced. I offer my highest recommendation for this unit and for the superb service I received from Amazon.

Easy Installation

Works great. the toughest part of the installation was remembering how to take out the old disposal unit. I solved this question by viewing some youtube videos. NO need to run out for plumbers putty. This unit uses a big rubber washer on top and another sealing washer underneath sink. Don’t believe negative comments about the difficulty of installing this unit. Any experienced home handyman can do it. A trick I used to hold the disposal in place while I lined up the pipes and upper clamp was a small automotive car jack. When you have a third hand holding things in place the whole job is a breeze.

This model is half the price than the same model in our local home improvement store. We had a professional plumber install it and it whizzes quietly with no vibrations. Very pleased with this purchase.

It’s good enough!

Great price! I saw this a big box store and it was twice as much… It’s quiet compared to the one I replaced but I do wish it was a bit more quit. All in all, for the price you can’t go wrong. PS the installation was a breeze, the removal of the old unit was the hardest part.

Nice and quiet

I bought this as a direct replacement for what I believe was the previous model, swapping it out was easy, instructions though sparse on wording were easy to follow using the pictures. Has been in use for a while, it’s quiet and runs solid, I would definetly recommend it.

The installation of the garbage disposal was very easy, good instruction, easy to follow. Unit is much quieter than the one it replaced. So far so good. It works and performs at it should.

Make sure you’ve got or order a power cord!

It didn’t come with a power cord. That’s unfortunately typical of appliances, but I forgot to order one, and getting the old one off was surprisingly hard, so they should at least remind you to get one. (And maybe they did!)

Pros:Not as noisy as the old Insinkerator brand it replaced, the install was EZ Cons: it does take a longer to grind than I expected from the description. UPDATE: lasted 3 years and is now junk, the blades flew apart and we never put bones or hard material in it. Looking for another brand to replace it.

Bad design

I bought this thinking it would last longer than the previous insinkerator badger 5…. boy was I wrong. It broke in 2 days. All that holds (attaches) it to the sink flange is two small plastic dimples on each side. Within two days one of the plastic dimples broke so it caused it to come detached from the sink flange on that side and start to leak. I don’t understand the design of using only two small plastic dimples yet they use a metal locking ring over the dimples. They should use all metal like the insinkerator. I ended up sending it back to amazon (Nice job amazon on the great return policy!) and I got the Insinkerator Evolution pro model instead and been working great since.

GE sucks.

I bought this disposal last winter and installed it in February, 2014. If you do not use it several times a week, it locks up and hums. A normal disposal that is designed well comes with a wrench that you turn if it gets jammed. Not this one. I had to jam a hockey stick down the sink and manually move the grinder around in circles. When you do that, the plumbing becomes dislodged. I already flooded the cabinet the last time it froze up. Currently this POS is sitting in the sink while I decide if it’s worth working on or if I should just pitch it and buy a new one from a quality manufacturer. This has been a total let down, and it has only been in for a few months. This will be THE LAST GE product I buy. Letterman was right. GE sucks.
