Surprisingly Powerful

 on June 9, 2016
By Razor Sharp
I rarely use my corded saw anymore. The light weight and small size make this a winner. I use it mostly with a small aluminum square in one hand and run the saw against it with the other. Using the high quality thin Diablo blades is well worth it. With the thin blade the power of the saw is enhanced and it isn’t that bad right out of the box with the Makita blade. I can’t fault the balance or the placement of the handles and controls at all.I haven’t tried other brands but if your happy with Makita in general and have the battery system you’ll probably love this saw.

Surprisingly good performance

This unit feels comfortable like most of the Makita products I own. I have medium size hands and it was very easy to use even at shoulder height (not recommended by the manufacturer for safety reasons BTW). The blade size is perfect for ripping plywood and other 4×8 sheets of material as there’s no cord to get in the way. It also left a fairly clean cut given the 16T blade that it comes with.

Use it all the time to make cross cuts in the small basement shop during the winter!

Use it all the time to make cross cuts in the small basement shop during the winter! These 18 Volt Makita tools are wonderful. And I am the kind of guy who uses tools as tools because that is how they should be made and when they break I can fix them approach! I have had other battery operated tools and they all turned into JUNK! Not these Makitas!! They keep going! Batteries charge quickly! Now when making a cross cut at forty five degrees through two stacked 3/4″ boards it is best to make a series of cuts while increasing the blade depth a little each time. Say from 3/8″ to 1 1/8 to full or rather to just cut one of the boards at a time, which defeats the symmetrical miter concept.

Great Portable Saw

I have been trying to narrow my cordless tools down to a minimum of two brands in order to share batteries. Makita is one of my chosen brands. The Makita BSS611Z has worked great for me as a tool for light weight projects where I don’t want to drag around a corded, larger circular saw. I have used it to cut forms for a cement pad, fixing fencing, minor decking repairs, breaking down larger materials before final cutting, and other small projects The saw is light, easy to handle, and cuts well with the standard blade on construction materials. I have 3 AH batteries, but cut out a plastic tab where the battery slides into its slot allowing the use of the 1.5 AH compact batteries which came with my drill/impact driver set.

Still cuts great..

Besides the spring breaking that makes the safety guard go back down after a cut this saw is very durable.. not sure if others had this spring break or not, but it broke on mine after a few uses. Still using this product years later no problems. Still cuts great..

I love this little saw

I love this little saw. I haven’t plugged in my big worm drive in years now. Sure, if you are framing a whole house you don’t want to use this but I framed a room in my basement only using this circular saw. I even use it to rip plywood down to easier to handle sizes. Sometimes I even rip wood down in the parking lot at the box store to make it easier to carry home. Great saw. I think they even have some better models out now. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of these again.

Great tool

This thing is awesome! It’s lightweight and has some nice power behind it. I’m not sure how well it would stand up to intense use on a construction site, but I can say that it’s great for making quick cuts around the house.
