Not so simple.

I started out hoping that I could install the new disposer without replacing anything accept the disposer body. In retrospect that was pretty unrealistic. I had to replace everything around it and update the electrical connection as well. So just go into this knowing that the sink flange and p-trap must be replaced and you might want to do some electrical work as well. I did a lot of research and saw a video that suggested that if I purchased the 9980 model with THE Professional 3-Bolt Mount that I could just remove the old In-Sink-Erator and slip this into the old mounting system. Not so, the Waste King is A 3-Bolt Mount System NOT THE 3-Bolt Mount system. They are not compatible. If I had known that I probably would have gone with the model 8000 which uses the EZ Mount System as recommended by Consumer’s Report.

Best disposal I’ve ever owned!

3 Mar 18. Still working great. I love this disposal. If it broke tomorrow I would buy another just like it.

**If you are reading this and comparing to L-8000, you probably want this one!**

I’ve had this disposal for about 2 months now…and it’s great! It replaced an old Badger unit that had come with the house when we bought it (the Badger started leaking out of the bottom).

and it was easy. I don’t know about the EZ mount

A couple notes for installation:

A very good/ lesser known alternative to other well-known brands

I’m tentative in giving anything five stars without it proving itself first and am holding back with a four star rating for now. My one dislike is listed at the end and it is unclear if it would ever become an issue. At the time of writing, the product has a 4-1/2 star rating.

Replaced an InSinkErator Badger 1 (1/3 HP) with the Waste King 9980 (1 HP). Debated whether to stay with the 3-bolt mount or switch to the EZ-mount configuration. I opted for the 3-bolt mount because it seemed to be more robust, which is a consideration due the active use of the under the sink cabinet area in our house.

This is a very nice unit. It is very powerful and operates smoothly. I bought it to replace a Insinkerator Badger Disposal that cracked after only a few years of use. I love that this unit has a lifetime warranty, even though I put it into a rent house. I know this because I called and asked. So, landlords out there, this is your unit. I wouldn’t look anywhere else. I’ll be buying these from now on. My only gripe is that, the very first instruction is to pull upward on the sink trim ring (I’m sorry, i forget what they called it) until it disengages from the rest of the unit. I pulled and pulled. I put the unit between my feet and pulled, and it would not come. I finally called their help line and got a very useful tip that should be in their instructions. I was told to pry between the “sink trim ring” and the rubber piece that it goes into with a screwdriver very carefully to break the seal between those two pieces and, voila, it came apart. I recommended to the service gal that they ship it ready to install, instead of having it all assembled. The rest of the install was very easy except that I had a water leak from around the big rubber piece at the top of the unit. I did not tighten up on the clamp that goes around that piece enough. It turns out you have to almost completely tighten up on that clamp, before it is tight enough to seal. Now that I know all of this, the next install should be a breeze, and since you read this, it should be for you too.

This Disposal is a Beast

This machine is a beast. Eats anything that goes down the chute. The install was very straight forward even though it was replacing a different brand. I really like the lifetime warranty. A word to the wise. Get all the crap out from under the counter and sink area so you will have a good view of what you are doing. Nothing worse than trying to work by the braille method. I made a couple of mods to the original install. I a 1 1/2 ” PVC splitter so that I could pipe the dishwasher directly into the plumbing system instead of running it through the disposal. Took me about an hour and a half to install including the plumbing mods. Another plus to this unit is that it is very quiet. Do not get unnerved by the metallic click when you first turn it on. It is just the stainless steel jaws spinning out from their resting position.
