I am happy with the product. I was extremely happy with the customer service I got from Anaheim Manufacturing, the maker of Waste King ( […] )when I had a small installation problem.

Mounting ring could be better

I bought this disposal as a replacement for a 15+ yr old Insinkerator that had decided to become a shower head instead of a disposal at a rental property. Since I don’t live there or have to use the disposal, I was happy that the cheapest disposal on Amazon was also so well-reviewed. I had it installed by a handyman in July 2011, no complaints from the tenants… until February 2012. The tenant reported that the disposal was leaking, but didn’t give a really clear explanation. I had the handyman who installed the disposal go take a look and the ring that mounts the sink flange had worked itself loose and was allowing water to seep underneath rather than down into the disposal. The handyman tightened it as best he could, but told me that this was the reason he prefers Insinkerator’s mount system, which uses actual bolts to hold the sink flange in place. I could see this being a problem later down the line, and sure enough, in March I got another call saying that the disposal had come loose again. I went out this time to examine the mount — it’s a big, hard, plastic ring that’s approx 4″ in diameter that screws onto the bottom side of the flange for the sink drain. There’s no way to use a threadlocker or hose clamp on it since it’s all hard plastic, and you can’t really get it all that tight since it’s a big plastic ring that requires you to use your hands only (unless you had some really, really big channel lock pliers). I could definitely see how it would work its way loose over time since it’s just a big ring on threads.

This disposer was an excellent choice for me. It is less than half the size of my old one so leaves more room under the sink for clutter. Note, however, that it does not hold a lot at one time but with continuous feed that is not a problem unless you have a huge family with a lot of garbage. I like it a lot & would recommend it.

Excellent disposer and incredible value, but frustrating custom flange compatibility

I moved in to a new home recently and found that the existing disposer was in need of replacement. Instead of replacing just the disposer, I decided to go ahead and completely replace the entire sink, including the faucet, flanges, and disposer. I decided to purchase most of these items on Amazon due to the excellent prices and free Prime shipping. However, I was troubled by the lack of documentation and details regarding the compatibility of the different parts. I’m writing this review along with a review of the disposer flange I purchased in an effort to fill in these gaps for future purchasers.

Easy installation

This unit was easy to install for an average homeowner. It took about 1/2 hour to remove the old unit (the hardest part) and install the new. This thing works great and will grind up almost anything. I definitely recommend this disposer to anyone wanting a really high quality, easy to install, and high functioning piece of equipment.

Easy installation and great performance

I bought this as a replacement for my 3/4 HP Kenmore and it is a real champ. It has no difficulty with tough food products (banana peels, rinds, etc.) and was a cinch to install. My only complaint is that the rubber flange in the drain opening is a bit stiff, so I have to push light or wide waste into the disposal, which is a little daunting when it’s running. But this was a bargain and I’m very happy with it.

Easy to install; louder than I expected

This came with everything required to install it. I also purchased a set of under-sink modular piping since my sink did not have the pipes necessary to support the disposal. Installing was easy, but getting the collar to “lock” was tricky. My husband had to hold and turn the disposal one direction while I pushed the collar the other to keep it from spinning.

I replaced my old In-Sink-Erator (Badger 1 Model) with the Water King L-1001. My Badger 1 was very old and still worked fine until the top rotted through. The motor was still working fine. I was hunting the internet for the best price (with shipping) for another Badger 1. What the heck, it had a good long life. I stumbled across two different Garbage Disposal review sites. Am I glad I did !!! This site and LOWEs review site shot the Badger 1 and the Badger 5 down….I MEAN BADLY !!!…..

This was my first disposal installation. The online video was much better than written instruction booklet. Check Waste King’s website for it. My old disposal was hard-wired. My mistake was trying to remove included cable to hard-wire the new disposal. It was impossible to get the power cable out of rubber stopper after I had dismantled it from unit.. I should have cut the cable and pigtailed it to house power inside a junction box under sink. Instead, I needed to get a strain relief connector to add to unit (parts only cost $3-4, already had plumber’s putty). Wiring and plumbing were the most basic possible.
