Great value, easy to install.
Compact and modern very easy to install. Everything needed was in the package, I was able to use my existing outlet flange as they appear to be a standard.
Great product – Educate yourself first
I am a researcher. I read every review – the good and the bad. I’ve read the Consumer Reports reviews, read the Amazon reviews, read the other, sketchier review websites like GreatGarbageDisposals.com (I made that one up but if you’ve done any research on the internet you get my point). I am writing this review to share what I learned about the product and about the many reviews I’ve read. My situation was that our 6 year old Badger froze up and simply quit on me, so a new one was in order.
Ten years and counting with the Waste King L-1001
Purchased in 2007, Austin, TX. After removing the old disposal and cleaning off the drain hole I spread a bead of Plumbers GOOP (any store stocking adhesives) around the drain hole; a bead on the bottom lip of the drain adapter; place the gasket for the sink on the adapter; a bead of adhesive onto the rubber seal that goes on before the large plastic nut; a bead of adhesive into the threads where the drain is tightened; place the adapter into the sink drain; put the rubber seal onto the adapter and tighten the large nut firmly onto the adapter. Have had no problems with the disposal that is used aggressively in these 10 years without any leaking or it coming loose from vibration. I also installed the same disposal for MIL in 2008 which is still operating strong.
I chose the Waste King 9930 for it’s good reviews, 5 year in-home warranty and no leak lifetime guarantee.
It was silly for me to assume this model will install directly to the existing mount of the failed Badger brand garbage disposer. Lesson learned is regardless of the model, change the mount and do it right. So, the Waste King 9930 uses a 3 bolt version and it went in as easy as the old mount came off. It took longer to clean out the old putty than to install the new flange and mount. The recommendation to use dish soap on the hush cushion when attaching to the included sink flange was spot on. The 9930 was light enough to do a two hand install. The hush cushion simply snaps into place. My setup uses an outlet so it was great the 9930 has a power cord already attached. I needed to trim the discharge elbow with a hack saw for proper alignment. After tightening all the screws, I tested the disposer and it worked just fine. It operated quietly with a brief noticeable click when starting. Other steps learned included cleaning dishwasher discharge tube, fixing additional pipe leaks (there will be several, typical when working with plumbing), and record the serial number before installing the disposer. I allotted at least 1hr for my installation but it was really shorter. It took longer for me to figure out how to detach the new flange from the hush cushion as shipped from the factory. The owner’s guide did not mention that step. Otherwise, enough information was provided to allow DIY installers to get it right the first time. I chose the Waste King 9930 for it’s good reviews, 5 year in-home warranty and no leak lifetime guarantee. Although my other unit lasted way past it’s operational guarantee, I expect this Waste King 9930 to last even longer.
Good Machine, Slight Mount Issues
I subtracted 1 star because of 2 minor inconvieniences, I think both related to the EZ-Mount thing. #1 was the paper thin rubber gasket which is suppose to deal the sink. The very second I saw this flimsy donut, I got worried. There’s just not enough rubber to squeeze into any imperfections to achieve a deal. Making it twice as thick and more squishy would work. But not having plumbers putty for Plan B (actually suggested in the instructions, so maybe Waste King doesn’t have faith in this rubber either), I went ahead with the EZ way. After proper tightening, I noticed instructions suggested filling sink at this point for a leak check. Sure enough, my initial fear was correct. The thin rubber just isn’t enough for anything but a 100% perfect sink and install. It leaked enough to be a problem. So take it back apart and headed to store for putty. If you buy this, just buy a tube on the same order and chunk the rubber before you even try it. After doing Plan B, it doesn’t leak a drop. #2 problem is the final twisting of unit to sink. I did use Vaseline as suggested but STILL had to hammer on the lugs much harder than I liked to finally get it seated properly. Good thing is this super tight fitting almost guaranteed a leakproof mount. Bad thing is that I was afraid I was going to bust the ring, which seems to be light aluminum.
Easy installation. Much quieter then the old one
Delivered as promised. Very simple swap out with old disposal. Took 30 minutes. Just make sure you knock out the plug for the dishwasher drain line if you have one. I did everything with a flat tip screwdriver. Pictures show product unpacked, old disposal, removed, plug knocked out, new drain collar in place,, new disposal in place, looking down throat and with removable drain guard installed. Then plug and play! Easy installation. Much quieter then the old one. Less vibration. Good build quality. Old one lost it’s seal. Went from a1/3 HP to this 1/2 HP. Very pleased so far. Just from the quality build appearance alone. Only time will tell but I think she’s a winner… Old disposal only lasted 2 and 1/2 years. Was way louder even when new…
Do a bit of research before you install
Lot’s of differing opinions on this brand of disposal. I have owned the higher end Sears models for many years. My last one broke after 10 years. The ones with the steel grinding chamber all seem to fail the same way…they rust out and begin leaking. I’ve never had a motor failure, always the leaks.
Great price, easy install, and quieter.
I have to say that I was a bit nervous about buying a disposal and installing myself. After a lot of research, I decided on the Waste King L-3300 to replace my 1/2hp GE. I was able to remove the old, installing the new in about 2-3 hours. It only took me this long because I was painstakingly reading the instructions and viewing videos to show the removal of the old model. The actual install of the WK was only about 25 minutes total. After the installation, with no leaks I verified all was working and was happy to see that everything worked as intended. The unit was about half as quiet as the GE it replaced with 1/4 more hp, so a win there. The instructions were also super clear and easy to follow. I recommend this model to anyone looking for a 3/4hp disposal with easy installation at a great price.
I am happy with the product. I was extremely happy with the customer service I got from Anaheim Manufacturing, the maker of Waste King ( […] )when I had a small installation problem.
