Just EZ to Install
I have an old InSinkErator FWD-1, and it started to leak from the bottom. Did my research, and was about to get a Badger 1 from Home Deport, but did don’t carry it in-store, and have to wait for 5 day shipment. The only model they had in-store was $84, checked on Amazon, and Waste King L-111 had great reviews, went on Youtube, people just had good things to say about this. Ordered it here, same day (on a Sat) delivery, paid extra $9+, and it was still cheaper than Home Depot.
Very easy to install, quiet space saving Garbage Disposal with cord included!!!
WOW, I am extremely impressed with the Waste King L-111 garbage disposer. My old garbage disposal was some generic brand that came with the house. As you can see from the pictures below, it is in the one in the garbage can. First off, I must commend Waste King on making this an easy to install garbage disposal. I actually made a mistake by not putting enough plumbers putty around the drain and had some water leaking during my trial run, but was able to quickly remove the garbage disposal and re putty the drain within 5 minutes! Anyone can install this garbage disposal so do not hesitate on the purchase due to fear of the install process!
Update: Since writing this review I have installed three waste kings for home use. None have yet given me problems.
I bought cheap because I am likely going to be selling my house in a couple of years. The old one was a GE and was at least 30 years old. It started to leak.
I must be the least mechanically inclined person that I know. I must also be the only husband on earth whose wife goes out of her way not to make a honey-do list for. I’m great at breaking things and becoming easily frustrated whenever attempting to assemble something, anything. Idiot plugs were created for people just like me. Having said that, the Waste King garbage disposal is the absolute easiest piece of machinery I have ever worked with — EVER! The EZ-mount system is truly that: easy. The most difficult part about installing this garbage disposal (because, for people like me, there has got to be a difficult part when working with tools) was removing the old unit. I pried and pulled, nearly destroying my kitchen counter and sink. However, using the Waste King instructions as a guideline (a reverse installation, so to speak) allowed me to save the kitchen sink and counter, preventing me and my wife from having to wash dishes in the bath tub (yes, that’s happened before, thanks to me). Note: Your old disposal is likely corroded, rusted, dirty, and so on, making it difficult to see the mounting ring, but, trust me, it’s there. Finding this little gem will prevent much frustration in removing your old unit and shorten the total installation time significantly. Not seeing this little bugger is what caused me to almost destroy my kitchen.
Problems with getting metal ring to catch.
I am probably the only one that had troubles installing this. I needed to replace a leaking Insinkerator that caused pretty extensive damage to the under sink cabinet, so wanted to go with a different brand as reviews indicate this is a common problem with the Badgers. I had problems getting the rubber gasket to seat properly. I thought I did, but the metal ring would never come down far enough to catch the two prongs at the top of the disposal. After an hour, and the third attempt at seating the gasket, I noticed the metal ring came down much farther that time. Enough that I could EASILY lift it up and turn it into place. So if you have the same problem I had, just keep reseating the gasket until the metal ring comes down far enough you can see through where the prongs are supposed to go. Once I did that, it was easy peasy. Much quieter than the Insinkerator Badger that it replaced, and takes up much less space. Very pleased with my purchase and now that I know the proper way of installation, I wouldn’t hesitate to get another one. Thus still the 5-star review, but man, the instructions could definitely be improved upon.
Works well until It goes out…
Our (same exact model) garbage disposal lasted a year and a half before it went out (started leaking out the bottom). It has a 2 year warranty so I called Waste King and they asked me to find the model number on it (fyi it is still attached to the sink) so I look all over it and see a sticker with the serial number on it but don’t think I see the model number anyway the customer service representative sits on the phone not saying a word as I search and keep him updated finally I say I do not see the model number but I can send you a picture of this sticker, all sides of the unit, my receipt from amazon, anything you need and he says if you can’t tell me the model number then I can’t help you. WORST customer service on the planet from Waste Kink! I called Amazon customer service and they sent me a new one and I received it the next day. Amazon has the best customer service on the planet and I shop amazon almost exclusively for that reason.
but it was just the waste and food
The toughest part of installation was getting the old disposal (an Insinkerator) out and the old plumber’s putty cleaned up. Hammering the disposal fully into the hanging bracket took significantly more force than I expected.
My home: The titan is compatible with the strainer assembly. Titan blades broke and was looking for replacement. I was looking for something better since this is for my own house, but I did have large under mount sink. So I was worried about the weight of the disposer and I do need more space under the sink. This is perfect! Surprisingly, this is pretty quiet and does a great job. I won’t hesitate to buy this again.
Great unit awesome price!
My old disposal was starting to rust out inside and had the worst smell that would fill up the kitchen. All I needed was an inexpensive disposal. The price on this unit was appealing. Easy to install, and still working great after a few weeks in service. It’s not as quiet as the super expensive units, but not very loud. With the unit running you can still have a conversation with someone around you. The sink hasn’t backed up, so I assume it’s grinding up everything to send down the pipes small enough. Would recommend this for sure!
