Pretty Powerful and Quiet

I purchased this make and model based on comparing reviews in the price range +/- 50 USD. I had a Badger 1 which, to its credit, lasted about 8 years. I went with Waste King because it was an easy swap, has an 8 year warranty, increased my HP from .25 to .75, and is pretty quiet.

Making a loud noise after a few months of use. It also is vibrating the entire kitchen. We have lookd inside, and can see no items within. Next step, removing it, cheking if inverting it and shaking it disloges anything we could not see. If not, it may have to be replaced. It is not usable in current condition!

Just another good waste king

Replaced a Badger that only worked for 6 months, when carefully used. (was i ticked off about that)

The best compromise for most homeowners.

Our InSinkErator Badger 1, installed by the builder, died after about three years of use. We didn’t abuse it, but also didn’t baby it, and the motor quickly burned out when it got clogged over the holidays before I even knew what was happening. In searching for a replacement I wanted something more powerful, but also hopefully quieter and not much bigger. And I also wanted something with a better warranty and reputation.

Don’t hesitate if you’re installing a disposal for the first time!

Made the mistake of purchasing a 1/2hp GE disposal at Home Depot when my last one went out–that lasted about 9 months–or less. The rivet on one of the blades loosened, which wreaked major havoc to my drainage to my dishwasher and eventually locked up the disposal. This time, I did my research and purchased this one. FYI: I’m a woman and it’s not my field of experience to install disposals. This one is much lighter than I expected it to be. Watched a YouTube video featuring an installation of a similar model before attempting and ended up only needing a screwdriver. Installation was fast and easy–within an hour it was done. My existing plumbing wouldn’t allow for the pipe included, so I used my existing set-up (worked great). I made the mistake of not following the very specific instructions on the last bit (the rubber piece that holds the metal piece in place), so that added another 15 minutes to the process–I would have finished in about 45 minutes otherwise. Easy to fix. Light, insulated, takes up the same amount of space as my previous model (maybe a few mm more–but nothing significant). Works great so far–I’ll update with any issues, but with an 8-year warranty, figure the disposal should be good to go!

Noise Comparison

A lot of reviews I read have conflicting opinions, many said it is quiet, many said it is very loud. I had a Badger 5 (1/2 HP) and changed to this Waste King Legend L-3200 (3/4 HP). Without any professional decibel measuring device, I found the Waste King quite a bit quieter. It is by no means quiet but I am happy with the noise level. Some reviewers compare this WK to the Insinkerator Evolution Series. I installed a 1HP Evolution at my office and it is very quiet but this is not comparing apple to apple in terms of cost and power. I used an iPhone app to measure the decibel levels about 2″ from the drain. Please note that this is just to get a general idea of the noise level of each garbage disposal. The ambient is at 65dB. The Evolution yields 94dB, the WK is at 96dB and the Badger 5 is about 98dB. For those that do not understand dB, do a quick search to get an idea how loud these numbers mean. Again, this is done by an iPhone app in a uncontrolled environment, so the intent is to give an idea. Personally, I think all the numbers are higher than they actually are.

Awesome disposal

Very well designed disposal. The quick mount system was indeed very quick to mount, as far as other reviews saying it was confusing mine came in the order to assemble it. My advice read the instructions they have some good tips like using a little dish soap to help turn the quick mount collar to the disposal. It is very quiet compared to my old Badger 5, the only noise that is noticeable is that when you turn it on the blades click once. I’m assuming it’s because it spins so much faster than my old one. Also another reviewer mentioned that no disposal should need a hammer to install it, when you read the instructions it’s for the plug for the dishwasher. I mainly bought this for the warranty. My last disposal was a Badger and it lasted 10 years, but the current reviews put me off from going with them again. Sorry for the long post, I will update the review if I run into issues. Cheers.

I bought the Waste king to replace the Kenmore that came with the home which was quite noisey but, it worked so I didn,t bother us since it was a limited use item in our home. Recent it finially gave its last service which i was expecting. I really did not want to spend a lot of money on a new unit but, in my last home I purchased a exspenive disposal unit which is well known brand. My wife enjoyed the perfomance and it was quite.

Waste King warranties are the longest in the industry although …

I used to have an Insinkerator, but the cheaply made plastic base cracked and began leaking. I have come to find out from friends and reading online that this is common. Waste King warranties are the longest in the industry although they seem to be made so they don’t need to be! I upgraded to the 3/4 HP from a 1/2 horsepower and it is very strong and disposes of waste with ease and it doesn’t seem to take up more space under my sink (nothing noticeable at least). The noise level is also pretty low. It sounds different than an Inksinkerator, but quiet and effective nonetheless. I have been using this for months now and I am very pleased with the product. It comes with a power cord so it does not need to be hard wired. If you only have a hard wire option, you can easily tweak it to feed directly to the disposal. I would definitely recommend this product.

I purchased this item to replace an Insinkerator 444. I never thought it possible to LOVE a garbage disposer, but I was wrong. The install was pain free, the instructions were clear (though it should specify plumber’s putty is required for non-stainless steel sinks). Once installed, operation is so much quieter than my old Insinkerator and it makes quick work of food disposal. On top of all this, it has an 8 yr in-home warranty. It’s only been installed 1 day, but I’m already feeling it was the best purchase of the year!
